The Jacob & Co. history
Founder Jacob Arabo was born in the former USSR, before moving to the United States at 14 years old. When he was 16, Jacob Arabo started working at a jewellery shop in New York’s Diamond District, and his journey with fine jewellery and watches started. He then went on to establish his own diamond jewellery designs, curating pieces for clients, until he founded Jacob & Co. in 1986. After 15 years of focusing on fine jewellery, Jacob & Co. began to manufacture high-end timepieces, firstly crafting quartz timepieces until partnering with Swiss watchmakers to bring his visions and designs to life.
A fairly young luxury brand, Jacob & Co. was founded 38 years ago, but the watchmaker’s legacy has achieved so many milestones in the last few decades. The Maison’s first ever watch was the Five Timezone watch, powered by a quartz movement, released in 2001. This timepiece came with interchangeable bezels and straps, so the look and feel could be altered with ease, and it was a huge success for the brand.
After a few years, once Jacob & Co. had developed into a known watchmaker, Jacob Arabo ventured to Switzerland to collaborate with Swiss watchmakers. Alongside a boutique watchmaking firm, Jacob & Co. designed the world’s first timepiece with a vertical tourbillon and an impressive 31-day power reserve, named the ‘Quenttin’ in 2006, and it was a serious game-changer. The timepiece was named after the first client who bought it.
The ‘Quenttin’ was embraced by the watch world, celebrities and timepiece enthusiasts, including none other than Quentin Tarantino who picked one up for himself. With this break-through watch, Jacob Arabo’s commitment to crafting timepieces the world had never seen before was born. This paved way for many memorable creations, including the SF24, The Epic X Skeleton, flying tourbillon baguette watches, and then the Astronomia collection. Although the inventive spirit of Jacob & Co. truly knows no bounds, the brand’s dedication to traditional watchmaking remains strong.
Fine watches that break boundaries
Swiss watches that truly are works of art, Jacob & Co. timepieces incorporate the most luxurious materials and high-tech complications that result in ground-breaking design and technology. The brand has welcomed many watchmaking firsts, and have been seen strapped to the wrists of some of the world’s elite, including Cristiano Ronaldo who has a selection of Jacob & Co. watches, and Naomi Campbell who owned the iconic Five Timezone watch.
Jacob & Co. is renowned for its mastery with serious horological complications and radical features. The watchmaker’s expertise expands to chronograph functions, tourbillons, skeletonised movements, and the application of fine materials and gemstones. Today, Jacob & Co. boasts a lineage of timepieces that were once only thought possible in the imagination.
Now you know to expect the unexpected, let’s find your dream Jacob & Co. watch…
Meet the Jacob & Co. Collections
Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono
Inspired by the mystery and allure of the letter ‘X’, the Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono collection symbolises the unknown, with the X-shape running from the lugs to the dial. Showcasing chronograph functions, these timepieces are the ultimate sports watches with exceptional movements. From the horizontal clutch to the column wheel complications in this collection, the intricate mechanisms and watch aesthetics become one, characterised by its perfect symmetry.
Jacob & Co. Skeleton
A collection that marks the turning point for the watchmaker’s creativity, the Jacob & Co. Skeleton watches are developed with new shapes, new materials and stand-out aesthetics. Transparency is at the heart of these watches, with the Swiss-made mechanisms displayed on the skeleton dials. Honing the same iconic X-shape throughout each timepiece, geometry and freedom are brought to life.
Jacob & Co Bridges
The Jacob & Co. Bridges collection is inspired by the aim to seamlessly blend the inside and outside of the timepiece. Recognisable for its smooth, polished bezel with a steeper angle, and its X-shaped lugs that have been made more angular and vertical, the dial-side bridges have been engraved with a Clou De Paris pattern, a defining design factor that makes this collection unique.
Jacob & Co. Chrono Tri Compax
Revolutionising the classic Epic X with a 3-counter sports chronograph function, the Jacob & Co. Chrono Tri Compax watches feature classic movement architecture with a refined, luxurious finish. Taking the House’s chronograph movement one level higher, the sub-dials show elapsed time, a 30-minute timer, and a 12-hour register. It’s the perfect timepiece for every adventure, equipped with revolutionary calibres and boast-worthy versatility.
